What is the difference between SUMIF and SUMIFS?

Short answer

SUMIF adds values that meet one condition. SUMIFS adds values that meet all specified conditions, and it can also be used with a single condition. Their argument order differs: SUMIFS starts with the sum range, while SUMIF puts the optional sum range third. Keep the sum and criteria ranges aligned to the same records.

For regions in B11:B70 and sales in F11:F70, =SUMIF(B11:B70,"East",F11:F70) and =SUMIFS(F11:F70,B11:B70,"East") return the same East total.

How do you add a second SUMIFS condition?

If product is in C, use =SUMIFS(F11:F70,B11:B70,"East",C11:C70,"Kit"). Both conditions must match on a record before its amount is added.

With fictional East sales of 300 for kits and 100 for parts, the East total is 400 and the East kit total is 300. Microsoft documents the argument order and range requirements in its SUMIFS reference.
